On July 20 - 22, 2008, in Syracuse, New York, the New York Association of Approved Environmental Laboratories (NYAAEL) & the Pennsylvania Association of Accredited Environmental Laboratories (PaAAEL) will hold their annual convention & exposition. The Maryland Environmental Laboratory Association (MELA), and Independent Testing Laboratory Assoc. (ITLA) have been invited to participate as members. This year’s conference will be held at The Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel in Syracuse, NY.

This year’s theme is Laboratory Quality & Field Sampling Principles. Our laboratories must be driven by quality analytical practices and ethical principles. The topics at this year's convention will cover data integrity issues and ethics as well as internal audits and management quality system reviews. Sampling has become a hot topic recently and NELAP's Field Activities Committee has become more active as well. We have secured speakers from the environmental lab industry including Marlene Moore from Advanced Systems and Libby Ford, QEP, CHMM, CEP, from Nixon Peabody Attorneys (invited), as well as several from within our membership. David Speis from Accutest, our keynote speaker, will present "The NELAC Institute Field Activities Committee."

There are two concurrent sessions scheduled each day of the conference. For Monday: Session I, we will have a presentation on Internal Audits and Management Quality System Reviews. For Session II we will present Measurement Performance and Performing Calibrations.”

On Tuesday: Session I, we will have presentations on Applying Data Mining Technology, Ethical Scenarios, Data Integrity Issues, & Ethics Training. For Session II we will present information on Storm Water Sampling, Sampling Issues, Sample Holding Times & Preservation, & Environmental Management & Compliance.

On Monday, July 21st, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., we will have an exposition with a minimum of 30 exhibitors expected to showcase the latest in laboratory equipment, products, and services.

We would like all of our corporate sponsors to join us as exhibitors for this exposition. Booths will be 8' x 8' and will include the following:

  1. a six foot table and two chairs
  2. 8' high background and 3' high side dividers
  3. a standard headsign which will contain your company name, city, state, & booth number

Attendees will be given a list of the vendors, equipment or supplies, and their booth numbers. In addition, we are encouraging vendors to provide us with door prizes that will be awarded during the trade show to promote attendance.

The cost to exhibit will be $500 for PaAAEL or NYAAEL Corporate Sponsors or $700 for nonmembers. The above cost will include all of the aforementioned booth equipment as well as lunch on July 21st. Electrical service will be extra and will be arranged through the hotel. Lodging will be your responsibility, but rooms are available for $105 per night plus tax. Last year we had 28 booths and 72 attendees. We had labs from PA, NY, MD, & MI. We anticipate 30 to 40 exhibitors and 100 participants this year. Booths will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
